There are various liposuction procedures available out there. Liposuction is a type of surgery designed to remove pouches of fat that you cannot get rid of in any other way. The "problem areas" of the body, like the hips, rear end, and thighs, are some of the most common places people elect to have liposuction done.
In that respect, if you are significantly overweight or obese you are not a candidate for liposuction. It is intended for people who are of average weight, or a bit above the average for their. Think about it: if you are overweight, the skin on certain parts of your body have naturally lost its firmness. Having liposuction would thus leave you with sags and folds of skin. However, if you choose to implement a healthy diet and a good exercise regime before then, to lose weight on your own and get toned, then liposuction could work. You also have to be healthy in general.
There are two different types of liposuction. Tumescent liposuction involves the injection of a solution into areas of excess fat before its removal. It contains a mixture of saline, painkiller, and epinephrine. It makes your blood vessels contract. You are relaxed, which lets the surgeon perform better. As well, the contracted vessels lessen the loss of blood. The mild sedative helps reduce pain as you are having the procedure and after.
There is also ultrasound assisted liposuction. It uses the energy from the ultrasound to literally melt your fat down. This makes it much easier to remove the excess fat. In general this is a much less invasive procedure.
Before any of this happens, however, you are generally put under with anaesthesia. Depending on how intensive the surgery will be, you may have it done right in the doctor's office. Other times, an overnight stay at a surgery center or hospital may be necessary. The application of general or local anaesthesia varies from procedure to procedure as well. After you have been anaesthetized and injected, treated with the ultrasound, or the lasers, the procedure is basically the same. The surgeon makes a set of minuscule incisions into the appropriate areas. Some of them are tiny, depending on which procedure is used.
An array of different tools can be used during liposuction surgery. Sometimes a syringe is used, sometimes it is a pump. As mentioned, ultrasounds can be used as well, as can lasers. One standard tool is the cannula. This is what is actually inserted into the incisions. It is the tool that sucks the fat out of your body.
